With more then 400 competing in a variety of events this was an exciting three days. Area 3 had 25 athletes attend the 2010 Special Olympics Winter Games. Competing in Ice Skating, Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Shoeing at Mountain Creek Ski Resort in Vernon and Skylands Ice World in Stockholm. The Winter Games began Monday evening with an outdoor opening ceremony at Mountain Creek that included a parade of athletes and fireworks. It was a spectacular view watching Team USA ski down the hill followed by the torch shortly afterwards. On Tuesday evening we had a Dinner Dance at the Crystal Springs Resort. What can I say……what a beautiful setting. Good food, good music and great dancing. What more could we ask for. As if that wasn’t enough, we stayed at the Appalachian Hotel. WOW….that’s all I have to say. The hotel, the rooms and the staff was all fabulous. We all stayed in 1, 2, or 3 bedroom suites including our own fireplace and kitchen area. Each morning we enjoyed breakfast in our suite before starting out for the day. The location of the hotel couldn’t be any better. The hotel is located right at the base of the ski slopes. Alpine Skiers and Snow Boarders just had to walk out the door and they were on the slopes. Snow Shoers and Cross Country Skiers were right across the street, and ice skating was a short 10 minute ride away. Our surroundings set the stage for a fun-filled event for all.

As you all know, Gail Paradise handles the Area 3 Medicals ~ Remember medicals are good for three years. So, anything dated prior to January 2007 are now considered expired. Please check on the status of your athletes’ medical forms now so that they will not miss out on our upcoming events. If you would like Gail to check on the status of anyone’s medical, you can just email Gail and she will check on it and get back to you. Gail can also mail you a copy of a medical if you have misplaced it somewhere along the way.
As for new medicals, PLEASE make sure they are fully completed. Many have critical data left blank, such as the date of birth or the LTP name. Also, the most key piece of information is the date of the athlete’s examination. If it is not clearly written, Gail cannot tell if the medical is valid. So please make sure this is written clearly. We know doctors often don’t have the neatest handwriting, so if it is not clear, please verify the date and clearly print it above or below where the doctor wrote it. Also please make sure that all three copies are readable. You should keep the bottom copy and send the top two copies to Gail. One will be kept in our Area 3 files and the other sent down to the Chapter Office.
Gail's address for mailing medicals is:
Gail Paradise 36 Ford Ave Wharton, NJ 07885
